HOW TO MEASURE A co*ckTAIL RECIPE

The way many co*cktail recipes are written use ingredient measurements called ‘parts‘. But don’t let that scare you. It’s actually quite easy to understand.

A ‘part’ is a way to simplify measurements so the recipe can be made with whatever measuring equipment you have and so you can keep the ratio of the ingredients correct.

So 1 ‘part’ could equal 1 shot, 1 jigger, or even 1 cup. 2 parts would be 2 shots, 2 jiggers, or 2 cups. If the recipe says “½ part” you’d fill the shot glass, jigger, or cup halfway. Make sense?

Here’s an example. Let’s say you’re making one Magic Potion co*cktail. For this, you’d usually use a standard size shot glass for measuring. So when you see the recipe says “1½ parts vodka” then that amount would be “1 and ½ shot glasses” full.

WHAT’S IN THE MAGIC POTION PURPLE HALLOWEEN co*ckTAIL?

Like the other creepy co*cktail recipes I’ve shared, the Magic Potion purple Halloween co*cktail is eerily easy to make and uses only a few ingredients.

You can quickly conjure up a batch and serve it in a martini glass or a punch bowl. And you’re done.

The ingredients in this devilishly delicious concoction include:

  • vodka – is the alcohol in this co*cktail. Any non-flavored type or brand will do.
  • sweet and sour mix – a common ingredient in many mixed drinks, this adds a bit of sweetness with a dash of tartness.
  • grenadine – a mixed drink favorite, this helps smooth out the flavor while also adding a strong dash of red coloring.
  • blue curacao syrup – another mixed drink favorite, this is a sweet liquid that gives co*cktails a beautiful blue hue. But don’t let it give you pause, blue curacao syrup is a non-alcoholic sugar syrup.
  • crangrape juice* – this adds the fruity flavor to the drink as well as helps with the deep coloring.

The final ingredient you will need is purple sanding sugar which goes on the rim of the glass to give this co*cktail it’s boo-tiful appearance.

MAGIC POTION HALLOWEEN co*ckTAIL RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS

Making this purple Halloween co*cktail is as easy as mixing the ingredients together in a co*cktail shaker with ice, and then pouring it over ice in a glass.

But before you get started shaking, you’ll want to prepare the glass by adding a purple sugar coating to the rim.

To do this, place a fair amount of sanding sugar on a plate, and then dab (or dip) the rim with some simple syrup or another sticky liquid. You’ll then gently roll the rim in the colored sanding sugar that’s on a saucer until the rim is coated. Lightly shake the glass while it’s still upside down to remove any excess sugar.

Once that’s done, you can mix the drink then pour it into an ice-filled glass being careful not to splash the sugar rim.

And that’s it! Your deadly delicious elixir is done!

co*ckTAIL TIPS

This purple magic potion calls for crangrape juice, and if you use it, the drink will turn out to be a nice deep purple. However, if you find this elixir a bit too sweet, you can substitute cranberry juice instead. Just note that the color may be more on the maroon side.

Try adding a bit more blue curacao syrup to fix the color.

Make a test drink first to be sure you still like the taste with these adjustments!
