The Perfect Halloween Sangria Recipe

Halloween is definitely Keith’s favorite holiday! This year, we decided to host an adult Halloween party, complete with festive food and Halloween co*cktails to help our friends get in the spirit too! One thing I love about a pitcher of Sangria is how simple it is to pull together. Everyone should have an easy, customizable Sangria recipe on hand for all of your party needs.

Why this spooky Halloween Sangria is perfect for your Halloween celebrations:

  • The co*cktail is full ofblood-red wineandorange-and-black fruitto really set the stage!
  • You can jazz up the glasses withorange and black strawsto match your holiday decor.
  • It’s aneasy make-ahead optionthat you can stir together in advance — and have ready for your guests as soon as they arrive!

Ingredients for “Hallowine” Halloween Sangria

Below are the simple ingredients you need to make the perfect spooky Sangria co*cktail for your next Halloween party! Sangria is a customizable recipe, so feel free to add or substitute fruits to your liking. As always, the ingredients and directions can be found in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Red Wine: I use two 750-milliliter bottles of cabernet sauvignon, which is my preferred wine, but you can use your favorite bottle of red wine.
  • Orange Liqueur: Grand Marnier or Triple Sec are ideal to add a touch of citrus flavor.
  • Orange Juice: the perfect mixer for this spooky Sangria.
  • Club Soda: adds carbonation to the co*cktail. You can use regular club soda or a flavored alternative.
  • Oranges and Blackberries: fresh fruit not only flavors the Sangria but adds spooky color as well.
  • Sugar and Water: to make a simple syrup to sweeten the Sangria.

What’s the best type of wine for Sangria?

First and foremost – youdon’twant to use an expensive bottle of wine in Sangria. It’s basically a wine punch with a mixture of sugars, fruit, wine, and liqueur, so a fancy, expensive aged wine is kind of a waste. For a delicious, fruity Sangria, you want to pick a wine withfruit-forward flavorsthat don’t have a super-high alcohol content. If you like sweet wine, a sweet red blend is perfect for Sangria. Cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, or even lambrusco are good red wines for Sangria as well.

Can I make Halloween Sangria with white wine?

I think the deep red color of red wine is perfect for spooky season, but if you aren’t a fan of red wines, you certainly can make this recipe with white wine! For a sweeter wine, choose Moscato or Riesling. Because we use a simple syrup in this recipe, you could use a drier white wine like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or Pinot Grigio.

Want to up the spooky factor for your Halloween party? Here are some fun ideas for the perfect party punch.

  • Use fun ice molds to create spooky shaped ice! Use silicon molds to createjack-o-lanterns, bats, and ghosts, or this3D skull ice moldfor more bold shapes.
  • If you don’t want to water down the Sangria with ice, you can freeze green, red, or black grapes and use those in the co*cktails to keep them chilled.
  • Edible eyeballs, plastic spiders, or gooey gummy worms are fun spooky additions. (Just make sure your guests are aware of any non-edible additions.)
