The Qualtrics team used the results of three nationwide surveys to put together the ultimate list of the 50 companies with the best customer service in America. The surveys include Forbes’s Best Customer Service 2024, Newsweek’s America’s Best Customer Service 2024, and the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) 2023-2024; over 400,000 Americans were surveyed in total. The three surveys focused on critical components of customer service such as speed of service, competence, people skills, communication, problem-solving skills, and customer focus. What company has the best customer service?

The company with the best customer service in America is Chic-fil-A. The fast-food restaurant specializing in chicken sandwiches earned the highest customer satisfaction score for fast-food restaurants on the ACSI for the ninth year in a row and ranked second overall on the Forbes list of 300 companies with the best customer service in 2024. The Newsweek survey results showed that In-N-Out Burger just barely squeaked by Chick-fil-A to take the number one spot for fast food restaurants with the best customer service.

What makes Chick-fil-A’s customer service so great? Chick-fil-A’s successful customer service can be attributed to their company standards that all locations maintain the same high level of customer service, with employees trained to say “my pleasure” instead of “your welcome”. Small quirks like this have helped set the fast food chain apart from its competitors and leave a positive lasting impression on customers. The Chick-fil-A corporation also has high standards for its franchise owners, allowing each owner just one franchise location to encourage a more hands-on operation. The grocery store with the best customer service is Publix Super Markets, which earned the second-highest score out of the fifty companies on our list. Publix earned the highest customer service score for grocery stores on both the Newsweek and ACSI index, 92.91 and 85 respectively. The grocery chain ranked seventh on the Forbes list of the 300 companies with the best customer serivce. One of Publix’s commitments in its mission statement is to be passionately focused on customer value. Grocery stores were found to offer some of the highest rated customer service with Trader Joe’s and Wegmans Food Markets ranking fourth and fifth on our list of companies with the best customer service skills.

The airline with the best customer service is Alaska Airlines. Methodology

The 50 companies with the best customer service in the U.S. were determined by comparing the results of three national customer service and satisfaction surveys. Only the companies that were on all three best customer service and satisfaction lists were included. These 50 companies were then ranked based on their customer service scores from Newsweek and ACSI and their ranking on the Forbes best customer service list. Each of the Newsweek and ACSI scores are on a scale of 0 to 100; the companies on Forbes Best Customer Service list earned a score of 1-300 based on their ranking from Forbes. That score was then divided by 3 to give all three surveys an equal weight on the total score.

  • Forbes Best Customer Service 2024: Year-long online survey of 201,000 people in the U.S. who provided 4.2 million ratings on more than 3,000 brands; only the top 300 made the list. The survey focused on four areas of customer service: interaction with people, speed of providing good or service, product/service processes, and how well problems are resolved.
  • Newsweek’s America’s Best Customer Service 2024: Month-long survey of 30,000+ U.S. customers who provided 200,000 evaluations on companies across 166 categories. Scores were based on the likelihood of recommendation (50%) and five weighted criteria (50%): quality of communication, professional competence, range of services, customer focus, and accessibility. The top 3-5 brands in each category were awarded as having the best customer service in the U.S.
  • American Customer Satisfaction Index 2023-2024: Annual survey of 170,000+ U.S. customers who evaluated their recent experiences and satisfaction with the goods and services provided by America’s largest companies (by market share) in 12 categories. The CSI is a metric used to measure how satisfied customers are with a company, and which aspects of the business are meeting, exceeding, or failing their needs.
