cause of a plane crash that killed a New Jersey woman and New York man Sat urday on an island in the Ohio River Saturday Officials speculated severe thunderstorms may have forced the plane down in a soybean field on Slim Island about sev en miles west of Mount Vernon Ind The victims were Sofia (Sal ly) Pizzitola 47 of Oakland NJ and Nicholas Barry 50 of Cold Spring Harbor NY Their single engine officials are holding Cleveland Cox who escaped June 25 with two other men Wallace Ruby and Russell Smith Smith and Ruby were arrested in Lyon County Ne vada Cox was with Smith and Ruby at the time but was re leased before authorities real ized he also was being sought Cox and Smith were being held on armed robbery charges and Ruby was charged with breaking and entering Medical Grants WASHINGTON (AP) More than $21 million in grants to various types of medical schools in eight Southern states including Kentucky has been awarded by the US De partment of Health Education and Welfare The University of Kentucky Colleges of Medicine Dentistry and Pharmacy received $757 648 $455750 and $97224 respec tively while the University of Louisville School of Medicine received $859248 The of killed Sunday when his mo torcycle and a car collided on US60 near Sturgis Police said the victim Myron Ray Collins was thrown about 150 feet by the impact No charges were filed Earlier during the weekend three members of a Pennsyl vania family were killed when a tire flew off a truck on Inter state 71 near Carrollton skipped over the median and went through the windshield of their car The victims were Robert Kenneth oulkes 46 his wife Nancy Lou 45 and their son Kenneth oulkes Jr 14 all of Caraopolis The truck then traveled about 75 yards and struck a car driven by Mr and Mrs Roy Taylor of Sulphur Ky The Taylors were hospitalized and the driver of the truck rank Stienf of Cincinnati was treated and re leased State Police also reported the death of a 24 year old Bowling Green man
